What to know about Canon Ridge.

Canon Ridge is a northeast Edmonton neighbourhood in the Hermitage plan area. Victoria Trail bounds it west, the old Grand Trunk Pacific railway right-of-way south, Kennedale Ravine north and Hermitage Park east, with Hermitage Road and Hooke Road threading cul-de-sac streets. Named for Canon William Newton, who founded the Hermitage in 1875, the land was annexed to Edmonton in 1961 and placed in the Hermitage Outline Plan by 1970.

It is a low-density suburban neighbourhood of curvy streets and cul-de-sacs. Most single-detached homes date from the 1980s onward, and nearly all the multi-family stock, low-rise apartments and townhouse units, was built from the 1980s on. Tenure mixes owner-occupied houses with rental and condominium apartments.

Canon Ridge Park and a central open recreation area serve residents, while Hermitage Park, Kennedale Ravine and Rundle Park provide green space and trails nearby. Shopping is a short drive to Hermitage Plaza and Clareview town centre, and ETS buses run on Victoria Trail. There is no LRT in Canon Ridge; the nearest is Belvedere on the Capital Line next door. St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Elementary/Junior High serves the area — confirm your address with the school division's attendance finder, as boundaries change.

For buyers, Canon Ridge offers 1980s-and-later housing, quiet cul-de-sac streets and quick access to Yellowhead Trail and river-valley parks, but a location that leans on a car and has no LRT. For sellers, the newer stock and green setting appeal to families, though it competes with nearby Clareview and Hermitage.
