Neighbourhood Guide
What to know about Carlton.
Carlton is a newer residential neighbourhood in Edmonton's northwest quadrant, in The Palisades area and named for the Hudson's Bay Company's Fort Carlton post. It is bounded by 142 Street west, 167 Avenue north, 153 Avenue south and roughly 134 Street east, adjoining Oxford. Its structure plan dates to 1999 and most construction came in the early 2000s.
Housing is mostly single-detached two-storey and bi-level homes built between roughly 2003 and 2015, plus duplexes, townhomes and low-rise apartments along the collector roads. Larger pockets take triple-car garages and lake-backing yards. A stormwater lake anchors the middle-south of the neighbourhood, ringed by pathways, and a remnant woodlot of native species survives in the northwest corner.
Elizabeth Finch School (Edmonton Public, K-9) sits inside the community on 160 Avenue, and Edmonton Catholic Schools has announced a new K-9 school for adjoining Oxford. Transit is bus-based, with no LRT: ETS Route 109 loops through Carlton's streets to Castle Downs Transit Centre, linking to Northgate, downtown and the University. Anthony Henday Drive is minutes away.
The trade-offs here are real. Buyers like the uniform build era, quiet cul-de-sac streets and the lake-path network; they also notice everything is a drive, with no walkable main street and no LRT. Sellers get a stable owner-occupier neighbourhood, but they compete with newer northwest communities offering similar square footage farther out.
