Neighbourhood Guide
What to know about Trumpeter Area.
Trumpeter Area is a newer west-end neighbourhood in Edmonton's Big Lake district, bounded by 215 Street (Winterburn Road) west, 199 Street east, ravine land south and a planned arterial road north. The land joined the city in the 1982 northwest annexation, under the 1991 Big Lake Area Structure Plan: its neighbourhood plan was adopted in 2008 as Big Lake Neighbourhood One, and a 2012 bylaw renamed it Trumpeter, after the swans of nearby Big Lake.
Most homes date from the late 2000s onward, making it one of Edmonton's newest west-end communities. The stock is mostly detached single-family houses on freehold lots, with semi-detached and row forms added later. Streets curve around stormwater ponds, greenways and preserved ravine land instead of a grid.
Trumpeter Landing park at the centre has a playground, fields and a toboggan hill. Big Lake and Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park lie just north, with boardwalks, trails and lookouts; a ravine closes the south side. There is no LRT: the Valley Line West extension is under construction, not open, so transit is bus service on 199 Street and Winterburn Road. Nearby schools include Bessie Nichols in The Hamptons; confirm your address with the division's attendance finder.
For buyers, Trumpeter offers new housing stock, a ravine-and-lake setting and a planned recreation centre nearby, but gives up convenience: no LRT, no school inside the neighbourhood and little walkable shopping. For sellers, the appeal is modern west-end housing in a nature-backed community, though newer northwest neighbourhoods compete for the same buyers.
