Who is Cathy Heron?
Cathy Heron was first elected to St. Albert city council in 2010 and served two terms as a councillor. Before politics she worked as an environmental analyst. She studied at the University of Alberta and NAIT.
When was she mayor of St. Albert?
She was elected mayor in October 2017 and re-elected in 2021. Her second term ended with the municipal election on October 20, 2025. She chose not to run again, and first-time candidate Scott Olivieri was elected mayor.
That means she led the city through the COVID-19 years, which were not easy for any council.
What did she do beyond St. Albert?
From 2021 to 2023 she was president of Alberta Municipalities, the association that represents Alberta's cities, towns and villages in dealings with the provincial government. That's a busy volunteer job on top of being a mayor.
Who is St. Albert's mayor now?
Scott Olivieri. The City of St. Albert declared him elected on October 17, 2025, along with councillors Neil Korotash, Ken MacKay, Sheena Hughes, Shelley Biermanski, Sandy Clark and Amanda Patrick.
