Neighbourhood Guide
What to know about Aster.
Aster is the southern neighbourhood of the Meadows, east of Laurel and south of Tamarack. The July 2023 consolidation of the Aster Neighbourhood Structure Plan places it on about 204 hectares, with 23 Avenue on the north, a railway right-of-way on the east, the Transportation Utility Corridor and Anthony Henday Drive on the south, and 17 Street on the west.
Council adopted the plan as Bylaw 17366 on January 26, 2016. The July 2023 consolidation includes Bylaw 20530, approved July 10, 2023, which reconfigured residential uses, a top-of-bank roadway and wetland boundaries. The plan's land use table estimates 3,530 dwelling units and 8,794 residents, using the plan's people-per-unit factors. That is a plan estimate, not a census count.
The plan keeps Mill Creek as environmental reserve and adds wetlands, pocket parks, bioswales and a greenway. Municipal reserve in the table includes about 12.8 hectares for a central community, school and park site, plus smaller local parks. Access in the plan is from 17 Street and from 23 Avenue, which the plan says is to curve north toward Anthony Henday Drive.
The City of Edmonton open-data release of the 2021 federal census neighbourhood file does not include a row named Aster. The City neighbourhood dataset lists it as neighbourhood number 6445, in the Mill Woods and Meadows district and the Sspomitapi ward.
School designation for an address in Aster comes from Edmonton Public Schools or Edmonton Catholic Schools, not from this page. Each division publishes an address lookup because attendance areas change. A school or park site named in a neighbourhood plan is a designation. It is not a statement that a named school is open.
