Neighbourhood Guide

What to know about Larkspur.

The Larkspur neighbourhood is located within the Meadows Area of southeast Edmonton. Larkspur is situated east of the Mill Woods neighbourhoods and south of Whitemud Drive. It is bounded by Whitemud Drive to the north, 17th Street to the east, 38th Avenue to the south, and 34th Street to the west. A plan for the area was adopted by City Council in 1987. The neighbourhood began developing in the late 1980s, and most residential construction was completed by the 2000s.

The residential component of the neighbourhood is dominated by single-detached housing, with some multi-family land parcels. The neighbourhood was designed to provide a range of services and amenities to residents along a clear, hierarchical, internal road system. A pipeline corridor runs the north-south length of the neighbourhood, which has been transformed into a linear park through Larkspur. A large commercial area is located along 17th Street and fills the southeastern corner of the neighbourhood. A school and park site is located in the centre of the neighbourhood, and adjacent surplus school lands are being redeveloped for first time home buyers.

Larkspur was named after an ornamental wildflower plant that blooms in many colours. All neighbourhoods in the Meadows area are named after plants and flowers.

The City of Edmonton open-data release of the 2021 federal census records 5,470 residents in Larkspur. The count is filed under neighbourhood number 6390, in the Mill Woods and Meadows district and the Sspomitapi ward. The census figure is the 2021 count, not a current population.

School designation for an address in Larkspur comes from Edmonton Public Schools or Edmonton Catholic Schools, not from this page. Each division publishes an address lookup because attendance areas change. The City neighbourhood profile describes parks, housing and streets. It is not a school-boundary map.

Common questions about Larkspur

Short, direct answers — each one citing the source it comes from.

How do I find the school designated for an address in Larkspur?

Use Edmonton Public Schools’ Find a School tool with the street address — the school designated for an address is not always the one closest to it. Attendance areas change, so confirm with EPSB Planning rather than relying on a community-level answer.
