What to know about Aspen Meadows.

The plan covers the northwest and northeast quarters of 26-52-1-W5M, except a 4.1 hectare private parcel in the southwest corner of the northwest quarter. Rosenthal Road is the west edge. The quarter-section line is the south edge, and the section lines are the north and east edges.

In 2009 the lands north, west, and south were mostly agricultural. The southwest quarter outside the plan was Rosenthal Estates, a large-lot country residential subdivision. East of the plan, the text names the Tiffany Greenfield and Lakeview area structure plans.

The concept mixes large-lot, low-density, medium-density, and high-density housing. Large-lot housing is planned at the west side. A centrally located mixed-use urban village is the focal point for daily shopping, and a school site sits with the open-space system.

Forested wetlands are kept as natural stormwater areas. Parks and trails are meant to link the housing to that open space and to the school site. The gross area in the plan is 125.3 hectares, or 309.5 acres.

A redistricting application for the first phase was filed with the plan. Later phases were left to subdivision, which the text says would refine the concept. The neighbourhood is meant to complement the land around it rather than turn its back on Rosenthal Road.
